The Tremendous Act to Take to Enjoy Today
"On a scale from 1-10 how would you rate....?"
How many times have we heard this question with an aim to never give a 1 or a 10? We usually find ourselves in the spectrum of in between. Whether it is pain, joy, sadness, we seem to always want to classify our current level of some emotion or sensation to give us a prescribed solution.
We have created many opportunities to help stimulate or suppress these desired or undesirable settings in our lives. Between organizing your closet to medication, we have many options that seek to augment and redirect our outlook and help us to start to find peace, health, and joy.
I am at the age where the optimism of my thirties can give way to cynicism of my fourth decade ahead. I don't know where you are on the scale between still cultivating hope from the idealism of life or the bankruptcy of lost dreams, but there still is ample opportunity to take a tremendous step to realizing a brighter side of today.
On this Tremendous Thursday, I challenge you to practice the act of thanksgiving. No matter how bleak our challenging the current setting is for you, this action will make the difference.
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
These verses inform us a divine mystery in both the way we are made as humans and the way God will encounter us as his people. If we in our situation, present requests in prayer to God with thanksgiving, the exchange we will receive is peace that transcends our understanding.
Transcends? To go beyond and surpass what we see or could imagine. That is pretty significant and amazing that God would encounter us with such a result! Right?
Thanksgiving and gratitude are shown to physiologically make a difference in us. It changes our will power, our moral, and increases the chances that we will respond to the current setting with a different outlook and result. Gratitude even supports that battle against depression as much as having enough sleep.
Want to take a tremendous step today to start enjoying what is good and pleasant in the present and in the future? Start with thanksgiving. Even if all you can start with is the gratitude for God, his character, the breath in your lungs and the new day you've been given. Take that tremendous step and pray to him with praise and thanksgiving for the smallest or biggest details you can muster. the Bible promises us that it will make all the difference and I stand on the promises of God, and so should you!
